The writer behind the work
Jonathan B. Edvane
British author · Dark fantasy · Short fiction
I am a British writer of dark fantasy. My work draws on folklore, established fantasy traditions, and original myth-making. I am currently completing my first novel.
I spent over fifty years writing fantasy, dark fiction and strange tales for myself, for my children, and primarily for his own pleasure. The worlds accumulated quietly, the archive deepened, and the characters acquired the kind of weight that only comes from decades of unhurried attention. I am now publishing.
My work does not belong to this century, or the last. It is set in places that feel old in the way that certain stones feel old — not because they are picturesque, but because things have happened on them and the ground remembers. The darkness in it is purposeful. The violence earns its place. The moral register is earnest, not ironic.

The first novel — The Shivering Vale, Book One of the Durn Yew series — is complete and publishing soon on Amazon in physical edition only.

Dark Fiction · Ghost Stories · Folklore · Historical Shadows
A separate body of work published every Saturday at edvanestories.com. Ghost stories, folklore, historical mysteries and strange machines. Nothing set in this century, or the last. Five tales are also available as an audiobook on ElevenReader.
Read the Stories →On payment
My novels are the only thing I ask payment for. Everything else — the forty tales, the weekly short fiction, the YouTube readings, the archive — is free, and will remain so.
